Keyword Difficulty (KD)
Keyword Difficulty (KD) estimates how hard it would be to rank on the first page for a keyword. In OneClickSEO, difficulty is expressed as bands based on the authority of the sites currently ranking.
Difficulty bands
- Easiest and Easy - low-authority competitors; realistic targets for newer sites.
- Medium - a mix; achievable with solid content and some authority.
- Difficult and Hard - dominated by high-authority sites; a long-term play.
The authority thresholds for each band are configurable per keyword report, so you can tune them to your niche.
Finding weak spots
When you run SERP Analysis on a keyword, OneClickSEO flags weak-spot competitors - pages from low-authority domains ranking in the top results. A keyword with weak spots in its top 10 is often easier to break into, even if its headline difficulty looks moderate.
Pair KD with search volume and intent. An easier mid-volume keyword with clear buying intent often beats a high-volume, high-difficulty term.
Where the numbers come from
Difficulty is derived from the domain authority of ranking competitors. See Domain authority metrics for how those scores are sourced.
